Venezuelan opposition in Madrid against freedom of expression
We, the undersigned members of the Movement of Solidarity with Venezuela in Madrid, denounce and condemn the recent declarations on social networks and in some digital media, against an activity organized for September 13 by the Ateneo in Madrid, and in which we collaborate, entitled “The educational system in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”
This is not the first time that the violent opposition in Venezuela has perpetrated this type of anti-democratic acts.
These are actions that directly violate the fundamental rights of the entities that organize this activity, which these subjects and the media claim to defend with respect to Venezuela.
The right of assembly, expression and association must be able to be exercised by all citizens of this country, without prejudice to the rights of others.
We understand that these actions, which violate the basic human rights of both the Ateneo de Madrid and the convening organisations, have nothing to do with the defence of democracy.
Ultimately, we hold the competent authorities responsible for what may happen during these aggressions, since there are already antecedents of acts of hostility on the part of these subjects and organizations.
